My Visit to Bowes Museum

On Thursday the 17th of November 2005, my Class and I went to Bowes Museum. The trip was with Mrs Leggott, Class three’s teacher, also our French teacher. Firstly we met Josephine Bowes, who was to be our guide. As we were waiting for her to come down the stairs I admired the elegance of the museum. It was a grand museum with beautifully tiled floors in the entrance hall and gorgeous stair carpets. Josephine Bowes was as grandly dressed as the museum itself! After Josephine told us where we were going (which room) we followed her upstairs. We did not stop at the first floor, but carried on up the next flight of stairs. We then sat on the floor at the top of the stairs.

Next we went into the music room and sang ‘The time of the Cherries’; it was great fun doing the drama with the song. Josephine did a bit of acting too in the music room. Then we went to look at Josephine’s pictures. I thought her paintings were the best in the gallery. Josephine would ask us to find a painting. We always found them quickly. It was really fun. There were lots of paintings, but none as good as Josephine’s!

Finally, (after Lunch) we saw Josephine’s dining room and bedroom. Josephine told us about what the objects meant to her. It was very interesting to see all the objects in the rooms.

The time was endless or so it felt in the last two rooms. The last activity was the best. In this activity we had to choose an object and draw it. I chose a wine jug. After we had drawn the object and coloured it in we had to write a story about the object. It did not have to be long. I thought it was time to go but it wasn’t. I was glad. We went out, (although) we were going to the bus and saw Josephine’s grave .Josephine walked down a little hill calling out “Au revoir, au revoir”. It was quite haunting! Then we went to the bus and I knew we were going now. I didn’t want to go out of the Bowes Museum gates. I really enjoyed the trip.

A Day Trip to Bowes Museum

Class 4 visited Bowes Museum as part of our French curriculum. Back at school the children had to write about their experience. Below is a recount of the visit written by a Year 5 pupil.
