POLICY FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINES IN SCHOOL

See Medical Conditions in School Policy

In certain circumstances it may be necessary to administer a prescribed medicine to a child during the school day. Non-prescribed medicines cannot be given.

In this case the parent or guardian of the child MUST complete a 'Request to administer medication' form (please see below).

The medicine must be clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage and brought into school by the parent or guardian. It will be stored in the locked medicine cupboard in the staffroom.

The school secretary or person authorised by the Headteacher will administer the dosage and record the date and time on the medication form.

If the administration is complex or of a personal nature, the parent or guardian should be requested to call into school at the appropriate time to administer the medication.
